The Huerta Family - Living and Burial Expenses
In July 2019 Roberto Huerta had a tragic motorcycle accident that left him in ICU for over a week in serious condition.
While in the hospital tragedy struck the Huerta family again. Roberto has four boys and one daughter, two of the boys were driving home when they hydroplaned and was hit by another car. Sadly Roberto youngest son Alejandro Huerta did not recover from his injuries and passed away. The Foundation was able to help the Huerta family with Alejandro’s burial and Roberto’s recovery at home.
Chris Signer - Medical Assistance
Chris & Virginia Signer would greatly appreciate your help! Chris is currently a firefighter in Frederick, Colorado. On Monday, 3/25, Chris went to a routine check-up only to find out that he needed to go to the hospital immediately. Following a few different tests and visiting with a cardiologist, Chris was informed that he needed immediate open heart surgery to replace a valve. Chris’ cardiologist shared that it will take a full 3 months to recover before he will be back to normal. On Tuesday, he was informed that they found a cancerous tumor on his kidney following a CT scan. Chris and Virginia need our help over the next few months to help cover medical costs, living expenses, and any other unforeseen costs associated with his recovery. Chris and Virginia are newly-weds, as well as new homeowners, now faced with the costs of a procedure and a diagnosis that was very unexpected. While he may have a long road to recovery, Chris is going to take these challenges head on with all of our support and encouragement.
Jason Oliver - Emergency Assistance
Jason Oliver is a Lieutenant with Lafayette Fire department and Veteran of the US Army. Jason and his wife Maigan went to Cancun, Mexico on Wednesday to spend a week celebrating their anniversary (16 years) Over the last two days Jason started to develop neurological symptoms and was taken by ambulance to the local hospital on Friday where they found him to have a spontaneous brain bleed. This hospital has already made them pay nearly $10,000 out of pocket just to run basic tests and get a cat scan. He is now admitted to the ICU in Cancun and has to be monitored for 7-10 days and surgery is still a possibility. Cost is $6000 a day in the ICU. The hospital is requiring funds immediately to maintain care.
Brendan’s Ride was instrumental in helping bring Jason back home. Jason is well known in the Tri-City community, he had selflessly provided help to so many people in the community with his job as a fireman/EMT as well as his volunteer work, that we knew we had to help him. Brendan’s Ride was able to help facilitate transportation for Magian’s mother and brother-in-law to be by Magian’s side during this very stressful situation, plus bring all four back to the states. The Foundation coordinated muliply fundraising events in the community to assist in The Oliver’s Mexican medical expenses.

Matt and Heather Kamtz - 2018 Brendan's Ride Beneficiaries
On May 31st Heather was diagnosed with stage 3 metastatic breast cancer. Stage 3 because of the size and the fact it spread to her lymph nodes. The actual name is invasive ductal carcinoma.
A little more than 2 weeks later a radical lateral mastectomy was completed. Soon she will undergo 5 months of chemo followed by 2 months of radiation.
She is a 45 year old mother of 2 (1 at home). The diagnosis has come at a complete shock to Heather’s family as there is no family history and the mass was not a defined lump but part of the tissue. The Kamtz family lived in Firestone for 10 years until recently moving to Brighton.
The Schirner Family - 2018 Brendan's Ride Beneficiaries
Vincent Schirner was born a happy healthy 7 pounds and 7 ounces baby on December 1, 2017. In his second month of life he began to vomit excessively and was not gaining weight. His parents Steve and Theresa were immediately concerned and began looking for answers. Another month went by and his condition had not improved. He was soon hospitalized and underwent many tests all inconclusive. Finally after 5 weeks in the hospital he was forced nutrition through an IV. He is now 6 months, gained 5 pounds and continues to grow. There is still no diagnoses. Doctor’s believe he had an intestinal virus and allergy that caused malabsorption. He requires constant care from his parents and home health team. It is hopeful that within this next year he will outgrow the condition and live to be a happy healthy boy. Vincent is so incredibly courageous and tough. He enjoys the outdoors, rock music and hanging with his homies at the brewery. Thank you to Brendan’s Ride and to everyone who has helped support Vincent and his family. It is truly appreciated.

Jake and Linda Story - 2017 Beneficiaries
Then last November the Anderson family’s life changed forever. On that autumn day Linda and her husband, Jake, decided to move the gas cans they thought were empty from their garage storage place between their motorcycle and a wood burning stove. They didn’t realize that one of the cans still had some gas in it. It accidentally got dropped and caught fire. As the flaming gas splashed across the front of Linda, it causes third and fourth-degree burns on 30 percent of her body. Jake ended up with second-degree burns, too, from trying to put out the flames.Linda spent two months in the ICU burn unit as she fought to heal. Since she has come home, Linda has fought depression. Her scars are physical and emotional. As she says, “It’s hard to be in this skin. It’s always changing.” She needed reconstructive surgery, ongoing medical treatment/prescriptions, and even has to do her own physical therapy. After getting to know Linda over that last couple of months, I can say she is one of the strongest people I have meet. She is funny, beautiful, inspiring, compassionate, and has a wicked sense of humor.
